Inverted Routers
In 1915 Oscar Onsrud and his son Rudy took woodworking to a new level when they built the world's first "Jet Motor" (air turbine) hand router. Since that day, the Onsrud family has become synonymous with routing. Virtually every aircraft built for the U.S. war effort in WWII had parts made on Onsrud routers. Most of those machines are still in use today! Almost every M-1 rifle stock built in the Springfield Armory was made on an Onsrud machine. It is difficult to walk through any major furniture plant worldwide without finding an Onsrud machine in service.
The legendary Onsrud control makes every one of our routers easy to operate. It's a control that's built with the operator and programmer in mind, and is packed with intuitive features you won't find on any other CNC machining center.

Model 900VSX
Quality from top to bottom and famous Onsrud Inverted Router design
Onsrud
Inverted Routers® have set a new standard for versatility,
performance and ease of operation. The finest quality work can now
be accomplished in less time--without the headaches normally
associated with conventional overhead routers.
The model
900VSX is Onsrud's finest machine, ruggedly built to the highest
quality specifications. Only the very best components are
incorporated in this tough, dependable machine, assuring you many
years of precision performance.
Onsrud Inverted
Router design means:
- Cutter
enters workpiece from underneath.
- Pattern and
guide pin are on top for easy reference--in full view of the
operator.
- Greater
stability on the workpiece and cutter, resulting in smoother
cuts and easier work.
- Depth
register is more accurate using the fixed position of the table
as the reference point.
- Workpiece
cannot be "pulled" into a spiral bit (the way it can sometimes
be pulled into an overhead bit).
- Under-the-table vacuum sawdust and chip removal system works with gravity to keep sawdust and chips out of the way--even
on deep cuts--eliminating the major cause of bit chatter and
burns. It also increases feed rate and tool life.
The Onsrud
Model 900VSX gives you:
- Oversized
pulleys for better power transmission.
- Precision
spindle machined and ground from special alloy steel for
accuracy, rigidity and long life.
- Quick
change pulleys for the ultimate in precision and convenience.
Your operators can machine their pieces at exactly the
right rpm for any application!
- A replaceable 3/4" chuck assembly that allows replacement of a
damaged chuck without replacing the whole spindle shaft.
- Automatic
shutdown when there is insufficient air pressure to operate
spindle lubrication/cooling system.
- Interlocks
that require prelubrication of the spindle bearings and
appropriate drive belt tensioner setting before the spindle may
be started.
- Magnetic
starter with adjustable "circuit breaker" type overload
protection and switched automatic or manual reset.

travel of 0-3" by pneumatic valve.
- Fog mist
lubricated, compressed air cooled extra heavy duty cutting
spindle.

accessories including a full complement of set-up wrenches,
instruction manual, lubrication gun, 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2"
guide pins and 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" collet.
- Unlimited
sizes of simple and inexpensive guide pins available as optional
accessories.
- Full one
year limited warranty.
- A 31" x 43"
x 1 1/2" acrylic-topped table that absorbs cutting vibrations
without marring the workpiece.

The 750SS
Inverted Router is ideal for production facilities where the extreme
versatility and sophistication of the larger Onsrud machine series
is not needed. The 750SS runs at a constant 20,000 rpm--perfect for
use with small to medium size cutters that don't require a variable
speed machine. So now you can have famous Onsrud Inverted Router
design, performance and quality in a mid-priced machine.
Requirements
- Dust collection: 500 CFM
- Compressed air: 80 psi, 4.5 CFM

Model 750SS
Economy, performance and famous Onsrud Inverted Router
design
Onsrud Inverted
Routers have dominated other price categories in terms of design and
performance. But until now, there wasn't an Onsrud Inverted Router
available in the mid-price range.
The Onsrud
model 750SS bridges the gap between smaller and larger pin
routers--and proves that Onsrud can give you more for your money in
any price category.
Onsrud Inverted
router design means:
- Cutter enters wood from underneath.
- Pattern and guide pin are on top for easy reference--in
full view of the operator.
- Greater stability of the workpiece and cutter results
in smoother cuts and makes work easier.
- Depth register is more accurate using the fixed
position of the table as the reference point.
- Workpiece cannot be "pulled" into a spiral bit (the way
it can sometimes be pulled into an overhead bit).
- Under-the-table vacuum sawdust and chip removal system
works along with gravity to keep sawdust and chips out of the
way--even on deep cuts--eliminating the major cause of bit
chatter and burns. It also allows for faster cuts.

Solid construction
using only the finest components has given Onsrud Inverted Routers a
reputation for excellence.
The model 750SS
gives you:
- Precision performance with medium depth cuts (up to
3/4" with oak or 1" with pine, for example).
- 5 horsepower three phase motor (single phase optional)
for 20,000 rpm through a heavy duty spindle.
- 30" throat.
- Pneumatically retracting cutter and guide pin.
- Fog mist lubricated bearings.
- Automatic prelubrication of spindle bearings each time
spindle is started--bearings never start dry.
- Self-releasing collet (no risky tapping of expensive
carbide bits to free them).
- Full one year limited warranty.
- A 24" x 36" x 1 1/2" acrylic-topped table that absorbs
cutting vibrations without marring the workpiece (other tables
available on request).
- Direct factory "Hot Line" for technical support.

Model 500SS
The most versatile
easy to operate pin router available
The 500SS C.R.
Onsrud Inverted Router® features a cast iron overarm, machine frame
and spindle mount, along with hardened steel (lapped finish) spindle
slides resulting in a very rigid, accurate machine. The model 500SS
is built to the same high quality standards as the larger, award
winning 500SS series Onsruds.
Simple
templates allow all types of complex shapes, internal cut outs,
slotting, hole boring, mortise cuts, and shaping.
A sample part
can be reproduced by tracing the sample with the overhead guide pin
on a direct one-to-one ratio, or offset the pin to cutter diameter
to increase or decrease the part size.
The exhaust
system is chambered through the table grill to the rear of the
machine for connection to a plant dust collection system or standard
shop vacuum. The sawdust is removed so the cutter is constantly
cutting new wood instead of recutting the sawdust. This allows you
to maintain faster feed rates and keeps cutters sharp longer. It
also helps yield better finishes, requiring less sanding.
With the model
500SS you can produce better quality work up to ten times faster
than with a hand router, band saw, or scroll saw.
The model 500SS
is more versatile than conventional table routers. The solid cast
iron base provides a stable, much safer mounting. The cutter is
below the table when not cutting. It allows plunge work and keeps
chips out of the motor for greatly increased life.
The overhead
guide pin means no need for expensive "bearing tools" and other
inherent performance and saftey problems.
There are many
other benefits to Onsrud Inverted Router® design. See the Onsrud
piece entitled "Here's Why Inverted Routers Are Better" for more
details.

- Throat capacity - 20"
- Table - 24" x 36" acrylic topped phenolic with dust
collection chamber
- Motorized spindle - 22,000 RPM, 3 1/4 H.P. commercial
duty production router motor. 120 V., 1PH (220V., 50/60Hz
